MORE IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY TIPS:

  • HAVE FUN! Get everyone together in your household and have fun creating the plan.

  • DO A WALK THRU! Walk through your house to determine all your escape routes and exits.

  • HAVE 2-ESCAPE ROUTES!

  • WILL THEY OPEN? Be sure that all doors and windows can be easily opened by all members of your family.

  • SLEEP WITH BEDROOM DOORS CLOSED. A closed door helps keep smoke, heat and fire out of the room.

  • NEED SMOKE ALARMS! Install smoke alarms in every bedroom and outside the sleeping area. If you have a multi-level home, put an alarm on each level.

  • DOES EVERYONE UNDERSTAND? Make sure everyone in your household understands your Escape Plan.

  • BE PREPARED! If people are not prepared for a fire, then deaths and injuries increase greatly.

  • PRACTICE TOGETHER! Practice a Family Fire Drill together and do it frequently. Practice makes perfect!

  • SPECIAL MEETING PLACE! Choose a place away from you house for the whole family to meet. Like a mailbox, a tree in the yard or a light post.

  • GET OUT-STAY OUT! Get out fast and NEVER go back into your home for anything!

  • FIRES SPREAD FAST! Fire can spread very quickly and time is precious. In most cases, you have only 1 to 2 minutes to escape once your smoke alarm sounds.
